🌳 Plant Trees, Save Lives – 4-Day Green Drive by Defence Colony Youth Welfare Society, Agra 🌳

Duration: 4 Days
Organized by: Defence Colony Youth Welfare Society, Agra
Objective: Not just to plant trees, but to create and nurture a Green Legacy for future generations.

🗓️ Day 1 – Inauguration & Plantation of Oxygen-Giving Trees

The green drive began with great enthusiasm as community members gathered for the formal inauguration.

Activities of the day:

  • Opening speech by Society President Rajeev Soi, highlighting the importance of tree plantation.

  • Plantation of oxygen-rich native trees such as Neem, Peepal, and Banyan.

  • Children and elderly alike participated, showing that environmental care spans all age groups.

  • Discussion on tree selection based on local ecology and long-term benefits.

“If you don’t plant trees, where will you find air to breathe?” – echoed through the gathering.

🗓️ Day 2 – Plantation of Fruit-Bearing Trees & Awareness Campaign

On the second day, the focus shifted to fruit-bearing trees that benefit both nature and the local community.

Activities of the day:

  • Plantation of trees like Mango, Jamun, and Kadamba in designated areas of the colony.

  • Interactive awareness session led by Gyanendra Yadav (Vice President) and Raju Chauhan (Organizing Secretary), explaining:

    • Benefits of trees for air, water, and temperature regulation.

    • Role of trees in attracting birds and supporting biodiversity.

  • Children held placards with slogans:

    • “Staying connected to nature is true humanity.”

    • “One Tree – One Life.”

🗓️ Day 3 – Implementation of ‘Matka Technique’ & Tree Guard Installation

Innovation met tradition on Day 3 with the practical implementation of the Matka Technique.

Activities of the day:

  • Matkas (earthen pots) were buried near the roots of newly planted trees. These slowly release water into the soil, conserving water and preventing heat stress – especially important during Agra’s summer.

  • This sustainable technique was inspired by traditional Rajasthani practices and adapted for local conditions.

  • Simultaneously, tree guards were installed for physical protection of the saplings.

  • Members like Kamal Singh Chahar (Treasurer) and Bunty Yadav (Secretary) ensured all trees were properly labeled and mapped.

“We’re not just planting trees—we are protecting them like family.”

🗓️ Day 4 – Maintenance Planning, Community Pledge & Closing Ceremony

The final day focused on the future—how these trees will be nurtured, monitored, and maintained.

Activities of the day:

  • Creation of a watering and maintenance schedule, especially for summer months.

  • Distribution of roles among society members for:

    • Regular watering 💧

    • Organic fertilization 🌿

    • Periodic checks for tree health 🛡️

  • Closing ceremony led by Ajay Tyagi (Media In-charge) with a collective Green Pledge by all participants:

“We pledge to nurture each tree we plant, protect our environment, and inspire others to join the green mission.”

  • Recognition of active members including:
Sunny Upadhyay, Sandesh Bhadoriya, Harpal Singh, Neetu Yadav, Amit Dixit, Vipin Yadav, Shiv Singh Parmar, Satish Upadhyay, Brajesh Nauhwar, Ajit Rathore, and others.
